Review of the Best Disney iPhone Apps

Screen grab of My Disney Experience App - Best Walt Disney World Apps Review

My Disney Experience (Free) – THE BEST

Walt Disney World has finally put out its own official Walt Disney World® app! This app has improved drastically from its earlier days and is available for free so considering all the features and that it was created by the park itself, I think it is definitely worth the download if you are visiting or planning a vacation at Walt Disney World.

This Disney app includes a lot of the same information available in many of the paid Disney World apps below but also as you dig deeper into it you’ll see it is meant to cover all the aspects of Disney World Resort park.

  • The wait times feature is not just for park rides, but for transportation from different Disney resorts and attractions like Downtown Disney and ESPN Wide World of Sports Centre. You can also access character greeting times, parade showtimes and more.
  • The interactive GPS-enabled map helps you navigate through all the theme parks and Explore the resorts and shops. You can explore by attraction, characters, dining and much more.
  • Here & Now feature which lets you explore what is around you where you stand in the park.
  • Purchase your theme part tickets from within the app, manage and update your Disney Fast Pass purchases.
  • Manage and share your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos.
  • Search, sort and filter activities by height requirements, distance, wait times and more to find exactly what you’re looking for.
  • If you create a Disney Experience account you can plan your trip, keep tickets, Dining reservations and wish lists all organized in the app’s My Plans section.

Everything in the My Disney Experience app is official content from the Walt Disney World Resort® including all 4 theme parks (Magic Kingdom® park, Epcot®, Disney’s Hollywood Studios® and Disney’s Animal Kingdom® park) both water parks (Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach), Disney Springs® area, select Walt Disney World Resort hotels and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It is by far the best Disney World iPhone app you can download when planning a trip to Disney.

Screen Grabs of Notecast Best Disney Apps Review

Walt Disney World Notecast ($2.79 and $5.79 for Gold Edition)

While this app is not as pretty and interactive as the other Walt Disney World iPhone apps out there it bears mentioning. This app includes probably the most thorough manual or guide of Walt Disney World Resort you can find. I always include it on my list of Disney Apps because of all the information it provides including the many Walt Disney World secrets that die-hard Disney goers will want to discover.

  • App comes highly recommended by sites like MacWorld and ZDnet.com
  • Text based app with secrets that many guests miss but worth the read
  • No Wi-Fi or internet access required.

This iPhone app is one of the most thorough guides to the Walt Disney World Resort and one of the top favourite apps for planning a Walt Disney World trip. It has over 300 pages and over 500 photos with anything and everything you want to know and a few inside park secrets too! For example the relatively unknown hidden Mickey’s scattered about the park. This app helps you uncover the hidden Mickey’s tours helping you find the various Mickey Mouse heads placed around the park.

Other secrets it has: Where to find a “living” tombstone at the Haunted Mansion, the ominous warning at the entrance to the Haunted Mansion which 99.9% of guests miss, where to find a hidden key at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, trash cans and benches…that talk and so much more.

The app is pricier than most Disney World iPhone apps and the gold edition will work on desktop and iPads as well. Beware this app is one of the largest at 60MB. The Walt Disney World Notecast app has a very large and thorough menu with over 20 categories. These include dining information, important phone numbers, a glossary of attractions by park all meant to help you make the best choices about what to see, eat and do during your visit.

Other Disney World iPhone Apps We have Tried

Best-Disney-Apps-Magic-Guide-for-Disney-World-screen-grabs

Disney World Magic Guide (Free with in app Purchases) by VersaEdge

You will find this app in the Top Favorites for travel apps on iTunes. This is another comprehensive Disney app featuring maps, restaurant information and menus, ride and attraction wait times, park hours and much more.

This Disney iPhone app is now available for free but to unlock certain features you will find a $6.99 in-app purchase price). In past updates to this post I always said that I don’t understand why people would pay $4.99 for this app when there are so many other options free options, however for those of you who have purchased this app in the past the in-app purchase price for you is only $1.49.

Disney World Lines (Free in-app subscription of $17.95) from TouringPlans.com

I don’t know how I feel about spending $17.95 for a yearly subscription to an app – but I guess if you are die-hard Walt Disney World goer this app could be beneficial for you. The app will tell you precisely how much time you’ll spend waiting in line at Disney World. There are pages explaining which parks to avoid in the next 10 days, suggested touring plans for each park and the wait times for the character greetings and attractions. It is a bit more advanced than the official Disney app but again if you are planning a one-off disney vacation this may be too much for you.

Dining for Disney World ($2.99) by VersaEdge

There are hundreds of places to eat at the parks and getting a spot in one of the 160 restaurants could be difficult. With Disney’s Dining Plans and number of park visitor restaurants are on demand and some require reservations months in advance. The Disney World Dining app is a great way to help you figure out where you want to eat with detailed descriptions, menus and pricing on each one. Once you pick your favorites you can add them to your favorites list to get to them quickly and easily when you want.

Another great feature of the Disney World Dining app is the GPS feature which shows you the food counters and restaurants in your location when you need a quick fix. Information on the Walt Disney World Reservations Hotline is also included, so pick your favorites sooner rather than later and make those reservations early!

Best-Disney-Apps-Walt-Disney-World-Wait-Times

Disney World Wait Times  (Free) By VersaEdge Software

There is much discussion about the accuracy of these Disney wait times application features. The issue is the data is only good if many people use the feature and provide up-to-the-minute data. The is app is free but you can pay if you would prefer it without ads. Because of the free version supplied by Walt Disney World I feel this app has lost its edge.

Disney World Park Hours (Free) By VersaEdge Software

Disney World’s Park hours vary based on the time of year so it important to check ahead while you are planning the trip. All the hours for The Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and the water parks are included. In addition, the app provides showtimes for parades and fireworks shows. If you are staying at one of the resort hotels then you are eligible for Extra Magic Hours a feature for hotel guests that allows you to visit the park an hour before park open or 3 hours after close. This can mean reduced crowds. The app provides information as to which parks have Extra Magic Hours on which days which is valuable information for planning your Disney World Vacation.

That is our list of some of the top Disney World iPhone apps to download. If you are planning your family’s dream vacation at Walt Disney World you may want to check these apps out for some great tips and detailed information to make your trip at Disney the best vacation you could have every imagined.

Best-Disney-Apps-Maps-Boxed-Set

Disney World Maps & More Box Set ($2.79)

This used to be a popular and best selling Walt Disney World iPhone app but recently has been getting horrendous reviews. The app contains full-size versions of every map of every Walt Disney World theme park. This is a big app that at times can appear to run a bit slow when you are looking at a very detailed map. The maps have everything you want to know about Disney Parks information on them include the attractions, rides, restaurants, bathrooms and location of character greetings. You can also click icons on the map for further details of any attractions or restaurants. The app although a bit slow sometimes has a lot of information, in addition to the maps there are also a lot more. Dining options, including restaurant menus, park hours and the all important wait time lists of how long you will have to wait in line at your favorite attractions.

Best-Disney-Apps-countdown

Disney World Countdown ($1.39) By Minneware

I guess some might rate this app higher than mediocre but it’s an app that basically tells you how many days left until your Disney World Vacation. You can choose from a variety of backgrounds or use your own Disney pictures while the app simply counts down the days for you. If you like you can get push notifications as well to remind you how many days. Not the most exciting app and in my opinion not worth spending $1.39.

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Mini Guide ($0.99)

I am not sure why you would require a mini version of information when planning a trip to Disney World but this app is just that. It is not a full featured app like notecast so it falls short almost immediately. Your money would be better spent on the larger full featured apps. But if you want a very brief look at the parks, with short descriptions of the attractions and rides, and minimal details on food and dining then this app may just be what you are looking for.

Best of Disney ($2.99)

This app markets itself by asking “how do you fit Disney World into one week?” which suggests that it has some tips on what to do on your vacation or how to pack as much Disney in one trip. But the app is just another app with Disney World Park information. If you are going to spend $2.99 on an app I recommend spending a bit more and getting a full featured app with wait times, maps, GPS functionality and much more.
